  • Hi,

I have been using a Google free Android phone for many years. Instead of the notoriously intrusive Google version of Android, I installed E/OS on my phone, and also on the phones of various friends and family, some of whom are also Bunq clients.

Every now and then I look to see if there's a MicroG update for Google Pay, (MicroG is an open source alternative to many of the Google services but which does not capture your data), and although I see there's work on the subject, it's not there yet.

Whilst using a physical card is not a terrible inconvenience, can I suggest that Bunq thinks about supporting the MicroG initiative concerning Google Pay? As the "bank of the free", surely it would chime to be free of Google's collection of your client's data?

    • If you ask Finn where the settings are for a bunk.me link, it will tell you, (or at least it told me several times), that they are under Profile>Settings>bunq.me. They're not, (on android), they are under the relevant account page, accessed by clicking on the chain link icon under the account total.

      Parse the right data, Finn!

      • While I'm at it...

It would also be useful if on the bank statement download you would include the name of the sub-account. Currently the IBAN is noted but not the name of the account.

        • For some reason I can't edit my original post so here is an update for anyone else bemused by this apparent omission:

The download statement option on Bunq web can be found under the Settings menu for each bank account, (the cog icon top right).

Logically, downloading a bank statement would not be considered a Setting but the real mystery is why the location of this feature is not in the FAQ.

          • @thijsoost#278261 Hi, I am a French user and we need this document regularly, it's called a RIB, (relevé d'identité bancaire), and a long time ago I and others hassled Bunq to add this to the possible downloads, which they eventually did. If you're a French user, this should be a download for you.

            • Hi,
I can't see where to download a bank statement from the bunq web site. The faq says:

Just follow these easy and fast steps:

              Go to https://web.bunq.com
              Click on the Bank Account
              Select ...
              Click on Export statement
              Select date and format
              Export

But as you can see, the Select part of the operation is incomplete. Select what ?

              Any ideas?

              Thanks,

              Nick

              • @beekie#280400 My partner and I are also in a Bunq pack. Other banks here in France are offering the same functionality and I think we might have to jump soon.

                • @alice-lime-puma#280437 I did this three days ago. No reply yet.

                  • I have shared sub accounts, (groceries! vacations!), with my partner for many years and we both have cards connected to these sub-accounts. A week ago I created a business account and now my partner can no longer see my shared accounts when she tries to connect a card. Additionally, when I try to connect a card I cannot see my business account. We're both on Android, FYI.

Bizarrely, I can successfully connect my cards from the web interface but she cannot.

Anyone else having weird card connection issues or did I miss some change in the functionality of Bunq which puts the kibosh on connecting cards ?

                    • Hi,
I am in exactly the same situation. As an early Bunq user living in France I have a string of NL accounts, one of which is used for all my subscriptions. Recently, the card I used to pay Deezer came to an end and neither payment by my new card nor by direct debit are accepted because of this discrepancy.

What is unusual is that Deezer used to be OK with this, (NL account, FR address), as that's how I have always paid. It may be that Deezer is now using a different account validation system put in place since the last time I updated my subscription.

In any event, I'm not going to create a new account just for Deezer so I guess I'll reluctantly be moving back to Spotify.

                      • Thanks for the replies. I agree wholeheartedly that Bunq should concentrate on improving their app and imagined that this idea would expressed as an independent app pulling data from the Bunq api.

As far as I am aware, there is no app which gives you a snapshot of your co2/eco footprint as you spend. There are plentiy of footprint calculators, some better than others, but none of them super accurate. None of them take into account how sustainable a particular product was produced, using only broad brush categories. The idea of most of these calculators is to inform, to make the general public more sensitive to the fact that all consumption has an impact, some actions, (purchases), more than others.

The app I have in mind would produce no better an output than a footprint calculator and perhaps that's where I'll go with this idea.

                        • Update 20 finally put back this functionality which was removed three years ago. Hooray.

                          • I currently have 9 cards which are presented in this order :

                            • Tap & Pay, 1 card. I don't use this because Tap & Pay doesn't work on my phone but I can't delete the card
                            • Maestro, 1 card. I only use this card when I am in the Netherlands, (I live in France which is where I am today)
                            • Mastercard, (Digicards). 3 cards. Of these, one is used maybe once a month, one rarely and one is frozen.
                            • Mastercard, (Physical). 2 cancelled cards.
                            • Mastercard, (Physical). 2 cards I actually use.

So, the two last cards, which I use regularly, are at the bottom of the list, not visible on the screen unless I scroll down to find them.

It it beyond frustrating that I cannot move the dead/cancelled cards off the screen and organise the ones I actually use in the way I want, especially when this feature was implemented in the past and removed during an 'upgrade'.

                            • Is there someone out there interested in developing an app to calculate the carbon impact of personal consumption via Bunq?

Given that Bunq knows very well what category our spending falls into and given that all carbon calculators essentially translate spending type into tonnes of CO2, it would seem a reasonable endeavour to me. For example, spending on grocery generates a figure in CO2, as does buying a flight ticket and although there would have to be some manual input for such an app to work, (where is that flight you bought going to? do you eat meat?), once the essentials were in place, most should be automated. I am not suggesting the result would generate anything other than a broad idea of where a user might be in their impact but I am suggesting it could go a long way towards generating awareness.

I am not a programmer but I have been involved in program design, (a very long time ago...), and I have also studied energy in the environment. I would be prepared to do the grunt work in setting up the relationship between spending type and CO2 but have zero experience writing code.

Perhaps I'm barking up the wrong tree but I would much rather have something like this than available to me than a green-wash tree planting program.

                              Thanks for listening,
                              NIck

                              • Hi,
You can add this to your bug list :

As reported on numerous occasions over the last two years, Android users cannot reorganise Cards whereas iOS users can. This used not to be the case and was actually a feature which was removed for Android users.

                                • Anyone else extremely annoyed and frustrated about Bunq?
Yes, more and more. I loved it to begin with and now when I use it it just bugs me. User experience has stagnated or is getting worse and new features (Friends ??) are totally wasted, on me at least.
On the other hand, the ability to jump between accounts and cards was truly revolutionary but has been sidelined. Why can't I get to the card attached to a particular account from the account menu ? Why does it take so many steps to change the account to which a card is attached ? SIX steps from home screen to card screen and back! Why isn't Home available from all screens ? And finally, my own particular bugbear, why can't Android users like me even reorganise their cards on the screen ? They used to be able to but this feature was taken away. Pfff. If it weren't for Peter Thiel I would be an N26 user by now.

                                  • Am I the only person who this bugs the crap out of ? It still isn't implemented !
