Disclaimer: When I talk about accounts, I mean monetary IBAN accounts, not user accounts. Also this might not be technically doable
at all, so sorry for wasting your time reading all this
As a bunq user I want to use the many accounts I have to budget my spending. As you "only" have 3 cards, this means you need
to link your card to a different account before paying. I've setup a Siri Shortcuts that allows me to select a card and afterwards the account I want to pay with.
This is somewhat convenient, but when I need to adjust this because I have a new account, there's some work involved. So
this is not really automated. Also there is the possibility of forgetting to switch an account which might mean having to make balancing transactions so your budget is clean again.
As I've seen various posts on Together about switching accounts, I'm not alone with this.
Now here's my idea.
Instead of me having to link accounts and cards, why not let bunq do it for me automatically?
Every purchase has a merchant category which is (if I'm not mistaken) submitted by MasterCard to bunq, so the bunq app can suggest the correct transaction category (This might be technically incorrect, but in general it should work that way).
My idea is that a user can assign an account to one or more of these categories and bunq chooses the right one when paying.
For example I have an account that I want to pay groceries with. So I configure the bunq app to take money from that account when
I am making any purchase of type "Groceries".
However I do realize that the link between card and account needs to be set at the time of payment. Maybe bunq could "pause" the
transaction for the time it takes to identify the purchase before actually taking the money from my "Groceries" account.
This kind of automation could be enabled as a "pro" mode, i.e. it is disabled by default but can be enabled if the users wants
to
