I have been thinking lately about how bunq can decrease the amount of scam victims. I think it would all start with awareness. Here are a few suggestions to make bunq a bit better in this:
1: Mandatory anti scam quiz for every user
2: Opt everybody in for the bunq anti scam training program, and periodically conduct scam response drills. (with an opt out) Make a fake website yourself, send out fake e-mails, texts, calls, try to scam your own users (or only the ones that are highly likely to be scammed) Provide the user feedback, additional training or conversations based on their respones, but no damage occurred.
3: Stop sending out e-mails yourself (surveys, invites, news) deliver everything via an in app inbox.
3a: Use the inbox to deliver regular in-app messages and updates about the latest scam call techniques and how to handle them.
3b: Use the inbox for personalized scam alerts based on the user's activities and interactions. For example, if a user frequently use Marktplaats, you can provide specific tips on avoiding marktplaats scams.
4: Create a risk scoring system based on user behaviour and history, you can provide additional security measures for users with higher risk scores or use this score to focus the bunq anti scam training program (2), or increase the amount of messages (3).
5: A simple, am I now being called by you button in the app > This would just always says no as a result and that the user should hang up, with follow up advices.
6: Make reporting a scam texts/sites/phone calls part of the app, this way you can increase the amount of data on this to analyze and to identify patterns and improve scam detection methods.
6a: Make it fun, create leaderboards to track top reporters and offer prizes to winners.
6b: Immediately pass a scam link from the report to a system that does a whois and mails the registar to take the site offline whenever it is a new link never seen before by this system.
