  • Splitting cost in a budget

Hi all,

Anyway is there a way to keep track of your budget without cost that you paid for a group, so for example:

A friend and I go for diner, it’s €100,- I decide to pay for us and later split it 50/50 #goingdutch but then if I look at my spend budget it still tells me that I’ve spend €100 on my food budget instead of €50 (I did use the split button to send payment request) is there a way to split this? So that my budget says €50 spend on food.

@Caring-Brothers-B-V-Olive-Badger#247140 I think you could label the 50 euro you got back from your friend with “food” too.

Hopefully the negative will make it correct again.

This could be automated though since the system knows you split it.

A different strategy would be with an outbox. You pay with this subaccount and then split the bill with another subaccount and your friend. (0%, 50%, 50%).

You mark every payment as hidden except the one from yourself to yourself. (€50)

@Joeri-Silver-Lynx#247172 De eerste optie werkt helaas niet maar de andere opties zal ik zeker proberen. Bedankt!

Okay, I think you stumbled upon a feature request.
Pretty ‘inconsiderate’ of the system to support [split the bill] and a whole categorizing transactions system for spending insights, but not the overlap between the two.

The previous strategy of working with an outbox is “to get around” the system limitations, to be fair, it might not be worth the trouble. Your call.

And this could indeed be probably fixed by allowing positive expenses to be categorised (in the spending insights).
This could tackle the "I paid for a friend & split the bill" but also situation when someone borrow me money (or the other way around) or even "my company is paying some expenses back".

I'd love to see this in the app! :)
