Have you reached your daily limit?

Keep these card payment limits in mind:

  • €50 per transaction and €150 total daily limit.

  • After reaching the limit or completing 5 contactless payments:

    • Insert your card into the terminal.
    • Enter your PIN.
    • This will reset your daily counter.

  • Traveling? Local limits apply when you enable a country in your card settings.

The payment requires a PIN

  • If you see "PIN not received" on the terminal:
    • Insert your card
      • Enter your PIN
  • This extra security step keeps your money safe!

Is your card active?

  • New card: Activate your card in the bunq app before use by following these steps:

    1. Go to the 🏠Home tab
    2. Tap on your card
    3. Tap on Activate Card

  • Card frozen: Unfreeze your card in the app to start using it again by following these steps:

    1. Go to the 🏠 Home
    2. Tap on the desired card
    3. Select the card you want to reactivate
    4. Tap on 🟧 Reactivate card
    5. Done!

Note: Only active cards can make payments.

Terminal errors

Various error messages can appear on payment terminals. Some indicate specific issues, while others are more general. If your card doesn’t work, try using another card or pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay if those options are available.

Card not accepted

Some merchants might not accept all card types. Try an alternative payment method or another bunq card.

Insufficient balance

  • Check your balance in the bunq app.
  • Top up your account if needed, using one of our top up methods mentioned here.

Unusual activity

We might temporarily block transactions for your security. Check your bunq app for any notifications. Contact us through our Support Center if you suspect unauthorized activity.
