  • ZeroFX with extra 0.5% extra fee?

@YY#228192 Guess they decided to do it quiet this time, as there isn't really any justification for this price increase..

@johannes#228195 I am afraid so and that is very unfortunate because the monthly fee just got raised a short while ago. Thats why at least I do hope a explanation. Some other fintechs only charge in the weekends for instance and others charge nothing if you are a paid customer.

For Bunq this might work out bad as many potential customers will find other fintechs or current customers leave the bank as it becomes to expensive for the benefits

I asked bunq. They explained networking fee only applies if you decide to pay in local currency. Right now we pay in Euro even if we use cards in the US btw.. the dollar amount is auto converted into euros . In the future we can decide to keep it in USD or any other currency. Then 0.5 % network fee applies. If we continue using it with Euro as of now there is no 0.5 %.

@Christoph-Green-Frog#228260 That makes no sense because if you pay USD from a USD account there would be no “MasterCard exchange rate”, which is listed in the pricing document.

@Christoph-Green-Frog#228260 But it would be awesome, if true. Don’t get me wrong :)

@Gerhard-Yellow-Frog#228264 That’s correct but keeping USD amounts in bunq requires efforts for bunq so they charge with 0.5 % for that. What’s the use case for foreign holdings and local payments. You stay longer abroad or live there, currency fluctuations
. It’s not for common travelers who use the card in London high street shopping tours

@Christoph-Green-Frog#228260 The pricing doc says it's for all payments or why can't @bunq shine some light on this?

@Gerhard-Yellow-Frog#228265 I let them know to clarify this officially. Bunqers are too smart not to find the needles
😉 bunq official communication isn’t quite yet where it belongs 😄

It would be great if this 0.5% fee only apply to those with local currency and that sounds kind of reasonable as Bunq need to set a lot in the background to offer this. And indeed @bunq should help us and clarify

I’ve got a reaction from Bunq:

With bunq, you save money on conversion when spending abroad by getting the real exchange rate. Soon you’ll also be able to receive, convert, hold and spend in multiple foreign currencies without having to leave your bunq app with Local Currencies.

To enable this we need to create and maintain a complex network of branches, entities and partnerships that come at a significant cost. Additionally we need to cover the risk of currency fluctuations whilst the FX markets are closed. To cover these costs we’re introducing a ‘Network fee’ of 0.5%.

ZeroFX will continue to give the real exchange rate for all our Easy Money and Easy Green users. This applies to all card payments and the newly introduced currency conversions from the bunq app.

The type of payments the network fee is applied to, is shown on the pricing list. There you can see an amount + "netwerkkosten" or "network fee".

                              @Maurits-Aquamarine-Akita#228409 🙈

@DanielL#228435 I think that’s the case unfortunately. Quite disappointed.

A network fee?!? 😅😅 Okay, it is getting more and more creative.

The whole idea of ZeroFX was that if the rate was adjusted (positive or negative) that it was corrected. Really liked that function. Now missing clear communication of bunq that this is just a 0.5% price increase.
