IBAN acceptance in Ireland

@New-Cyan-Llama-2090572834#219324 Hi Eoghan, bunq is a Dutch bank. The Dutch IBAN format has only 18 digits, and companies etc. should recognize it just fine. If they don't, they're actually breaking European law. You can try to contact them to resolve the issue.
We also have a useful topic about how to deal with IBAN discrimination here: https://together.bunq.com/d/23003-experiencing-iban-discrimination-here-s-what-you-should-do And there's a great blog post with more tips and explanation written by Wise here: https://wise.com/gb/blog/iban-discrimination
As a last resort, you can always contact your national authority and complain about a certain company. In Ireland this would be the Central Bank of Ireland and the CCPC. It's a good idea to document as much as possible where the company is infringing on your right to use a foreign IBAN, for example with screenshots from their website or with e-mails/support chat that you exchanged with the company.
There is also an initiative started by Wise and other Fintechs that is also supported by bunq where you can report problems with IBAN discrimination. Visit it here: https://www.acceptmyiban.org

The solution is here now as you have heard. Bunq can now (for anyone who wants) issue Irish iban accounts. So acceptance should no longer be a problem and it will help you in the usage of bunq in Ireland. 💪🏻☘️🇮🇪

@MarJamJars#240065 This is cool - however how do I get it? Do I have to open a new account or can I update the IBAN on an existing account?

@Arnold-Red-Leopard#240312 Check your this post how to create a local iban 👉🏻 https://together.bunq.com/d/45253-local-ibans

Hast Du die aktuelle Version der bunq-App installiert?
JakobProdigy
@Arnold-Red-Leopard#240316 Are you based in Ireland? Because then you can just change over your bunq account to the new Irish branch and every new sub-account you create will automatically get IE IBANs. Check out this article for more info: https://together.bunq.com/d/48561-irish-ibans-dia-duit-eire
The Local IBAN feature is just for people who live outside of a certain country but want a sub-account with an IBAN of that country for their travel or something (might make paying rent or certain things easier while on holiday). If you live outside of Ireland, you should be able to use it and the option also shows up correctly in my app.
I'm living in Ireland 🇮🇪 but I want to have bank account in DE not with IE is it possible to have account open in this app in DE while living in Ireland thanks
