  • Travel card refunds denied by bunq

Hi guys,

I'm having a issue with the refund from two tickets from Swiss.
I paid both tickets with one transaction in my travel card, now Swiss is trying to refund each ticket separated, each one as a partial reversal of the transaction.
Bunq has denied one of this transactions because apparently it only accepts one reversal per transaction.
Bunq suggested that swiss send money to my account using the IBAN, but Swiss states that they can only refund to the original transaction.

I have this issue two times and the third one to come next weeks because I have a lot of cancelled flights with swiss (always two tickets).
Same transactions went well in my husband's card from ING and also in my mastercard issued in Brazil.
Only here in the bunq I have the issue with the two partial reversals.

Anyone has any idea how I can handle this?

@Ingrid-Azure-Butterfly#203178 Swiss owes you money and tries to give it back in a way that doesn’t work. I mean, it’s unfortunate that bunq‘s system isn‘t equipped for this apparently, but it‘s not your fault or responsibility. Swiss should be able to also send a regular bank transfer instead to return the money that is owed. If they refuse, that sounds illegal to me.

Het speelt geen rol wat Swiss hier zegt. Ze moeten de transactie (dus niet 1 transactie in 2 delen) retourneren cq reversen

Thanks @Jakob-Y#203186 and @Bassie#203193 I also think the same. They should be able to refund in a proper way.

@Ingrid-Azure-Butterfly#203205 I don’t agree, here bunq has to deliver. Every company normally refunds money the same way the money was payed. In this case by card. Bunq‘s system is poor on this case.

@Andys#203213 Of course better systems are always a good thing, but from the perspective of the consumer (OP), they're not responsible for how their bank has set up their systems. Let's see: bunq is connected to the Mastercard network. For that, they have certain agreements with Mastercard that they (apparently) fulfill, otherwise Mastercard would not let bunq use their network. The merchant (Swiss) also connects (directly or through a PSP) to the same Mastercard network to process transactions. They cannot deny a refund just on the basis of the consumer's bank not supporting an optional feature. That's not OP's responsibility to make sure such functionality exists before booking a ticket. The regular gal (or guy) wouldn't even know about such intricacies. Of course Swiss can try to use such features to pay their debts, but if it's not working, they are responsible to find another way.

unbelievable ,, and we live in the 2020. Just hope best for you. (Ingrid)

Dit geeft niet echt hoop voor nieuwe bunq gebruikers als ik. Zal er nog eens goed over nadenken of ik hiermee door wil gaan.

Don’t let Swiss make this your problem. Thank them for their effort so far and ask them how, given the limitations of the banking environment, you can get your money back.
