  • Support for online Bancontact payments

    Bastiaan changed the title to Support for online Bancontact payments.

      What about support for Bancontact for the physical card payments?

Was me voordien niet opgevallen

It got to our understanding that the majority of the stores do accept Maestro cards, but that's just not a "known" concept in Belgium, which gives the false feeling that the card won't be accepted.

                  Curious to know your experiences :) Cheers!

                    @Ricardo_#166283 Maestro is indeed accepted in a lot of stores. The problem isn’t the stores, it’s sending money to a relative for example. They create a QR code with any Belgian banking app that I can scan with any Belgian banking app. It all works through Bancontact. It is quick and easy. My 60 year old parents don’t know anything about bunq or N26 or Revolut whatsoever but they are able to send money through payconic by bancontact. A couple of months ago, the school of my daughter organized an event and they sold soup. You were able to buy this soup with cash or with Payconic. Every Belgian bank has an app that can scan these payconic QR-codes so everyone was able to pay for this soup with their smartphone. Payconic even works location based, you don’t even have to scan a qr code when you open the app. As I said, it is quick and easy. Bancontact is way bigger than just stores accepting maestro or bancontact. Last year I was at a Studio 100 event were they sold some kind of figurine that you could pay for with cash or with any bancontact-friendly app on your smartphone. The bancontact-bubble is way bigger than just in-store payments.

                      @Julien-Azure-Panda#166291 Got it, thanks! As usual, we take all ideas and suggestions to evaluate their feasibility 👍🏼
                      While that's not possible, you can already send requests via bunq to your parents and daughter, they can choose Bancontact to pay you. You'll get the money instantly :)

                        @Ricardo_#166293 Which is a nice start! 👍

                          @Ricardo_#166283 Hey Ricardo

                          A lot of pharmacists, little grocery stores, general practitioners, ... only accept Bancontact payments.

                          I've had several occurrences the last few weeks where I couldn't pay with my Maestro card and I had to leave the place looking for an ATM to withdraw cash. I haven't been using cash for the last few years and it's kind of odd that I have to start using cash again after moving to an online bank... It's not the experience you'd expect.

                          I just hope a Bancontact card will be one of the possible cards in the future, because this would be the main reason for me to quit bunq and go back to a traditional bank.

                            @brmlmn#167495 Lukt het wél met de Bunq debit MasterCard in België?

                              @Petrus-Olive-Tiger#167512 Hey Peter, MasterCard is even less accepted in smaller stores in Belgium, because of the high transaction costs.

                              Most big retailers accept MasterCard, but Colruyt, one of the biggest, does not accept it.

                                Okay Bram. het beste is dan toch een (gratis) zichtrekening aan te blijven houden in België. Ik heb zelf ook Bunq, maar houd mij Nederlandse Rabobank rekening aan.

                                  @Petrus-Olive-Tiger#167512 Hello! Oui ça fonctionne très bien. Je suis en France a 1 km de la Belgique et j'y fais beaucoup d'achats, Bunq fonctionne très bien. Patrick..

                                    @Ricardo_#166283 Hi Ricardo ! Yes our Bunq cards does work perfectly in Belgium. I live in France at 1km from Belgium and I shop often there with my Bunq card. No issue. Patrick.

                                      @brmlmn#167513 Ah oui en effet j'avais oublié colruyt... Mais ils prennent Maestro ?

                                        @Ricardo_#166283 I can speak for Leuven and here although in most places my bunq Maestro works, some places where it doesn't are grocery stores, nachtwinkels, some pharmacies although not all. So yes, Bancontact in Belgium is still an issue and if bunq does that it will be greatly appreciated. Although I use bunq as my primary bank, I need to keep my KBC account alive just for these specific stores where they won't accept anything but Bancontact.

                                        @brmlmn#167513 @Patrick-Navy-Turtle-1608571353#169211 If you check Colryut website' it says no. If you ask the person who works there, they will be clueless and would probably say no. But if you just go ahead and pay using your Bunq Maestro card - it works! Very weird, it seems even they are not informed well. Have tried this in three Colryut stores and 2 SPAR so I can confirm that indeed bunq works there.
