@brmlmn#167495 Lukt het wél met de Bunq debit MasterCard in België?

@Petrus-Olive-Tiger#167512 Hey Peter, MasterCard is even less accepted in smaller stores in Belgium, because of the high transaction costs.

Most big retailers accept MasterCard, but Colruyt, one of the biggest, does not accept it.

Patrick..

@Ricardo_#166283 Hi Ricardo ! Yes our Bunq cards does work perfectly in Belgium. I live in France at 1km from Belgium and I shop often there with my Bunq card. No issue. Patrick.

@brmlmn#167513 Ah oui en effet j'avais oublié colruyt... Mais ils prennent Maestro ?

@Ricardo_#166283 I can speak for Leuven and here although in most places my bunq Maestro works, some places where it doesn't are grocery stores, nachtwinkels, some pharmacies although not all. So yes, Bancontact in Belgium is still an issue and if bunq does that it will be greatly appreciated. Although I use bunq as my primary bank, I need to keep my KBC account alive just for these specific stores where they won't accept anything but Bancontact.

@brmlmn#167513 @Patrick-Navy-Turtle-1608571353#169211 If you check Colryut website' it says no. If you ask the person who works there, they will be clueless and would probably say no. But if you just go ahead and pay using your Bunq Maestro card - it works! Very weird, it seems even they are not informed well. Have tried this in three Colryut stores and 2 SPAR so I can confirm that indeed bunq works there.

@brmlmn#165302 But this is not possible, because Bunq is a Dutch bank and would need a additional license in Belgium. And also would need to support BE Ibans. This license often costs more than Million Euros per Country. Depending on where you life. Also Girocard (a similar System in Germany) has those requirements. If they would accept payment methods of every EU State the costs would be unimaginable.

@Wiktor-Lime-Jaguar#250115 Nope, what has been commented in here before still holds true. As a Dutch bank, it's unlikely that bunq will incorporate national systems like Bancontact for Belgium, Girocard for Germany, Bizum for Spain etc. anytime soon. But we also used to think that local IBANs are infeasible, so never say never I guess...

@Jakob-Y#250116 won’t be the same bank like a local than bunq like a local.

The country nuances makes the difference when you decide to choose your bank. The less the friction the better. Could you imagine bunq without iDeal? Same for Bancontact, giropay, bizum and others.

@101#270925 Could you imagine bunq without iDeal?

Sure. I'm not from The Netherlands and never use iDEAL. Therefore it's easy to imagine bunq without it. But I can say that here in Germany I've also never seen the need for a girocard or for using giropay, Paydirekt, Kwitt etc. Even Sofort (from Klarna), which is supported by bunq and more international, is in my eyes not really necessary and doesn't bring a lot of surplus value.

I do think there is room in the payment space for some disruption, but unless it is actually instant and works internationally, it's a non-starter in my eyes. That being said, N26 started to support Bizum a while ago. That goes to show, never say never. My opinion is really just that, the opinion of some rather unimportant guy.
