  • Improving bunq.app / bunq Web

Just watched bunq update 11 and really pleased with the anouncement of the web interface. Immediately began discovering it but found out imho it is at a prototype level. Drilling down to a specifc event brought up this image which is pretty beta.

For a long time I was wishing for a big screen estate + keyboard possibility to use bunq (web app), now it is here I really encourage bunq to extend the current baby version of this web app.

@YoupTube#106271 You waited for so long, how about a little longer for these things to iron out... Just be pleased it is finally here, it will become more feature-full over time.

@YoupTube#106271 bunq is completely aware of that and it's intentional at this point. They first released the most requested features (paying from bigger screen and freezing cards). New features can always be added but first there needs to be a solid base product. 👍😁 So, yes it may be somewhat limited compared to the app, but they need to start somewhere, and I think it is amazing they started working on it. 👍

@Sander#106481 ^ can't expect a new web app to be up to par right away to a mobile app which they have been working on for multiple years now. I'm sure over time it'll get better and better now that the base application is set-up.

I’m already happy we finally have a way to block cards online and indeed to make payments on a big screen. :) (Not to mention reliable copy/paste from stuff on the “desktop”. iOS Continuity is fun but doesn’t always work as expected :P) But even the making payments I personally don’t care about too much, the block card from browser feature is the one I’ve been waiting for for ages :)

@Gregory#106504 Off course I understand Gregory but it really felt far off the bunq app. You were already a bit further with your bunq PWA made in Ionic?! Maybe an idea for bunq as well to switch over to a PWA to have a (native looking app) and a web app that are in sync. I can imagine this is a huge brain cracker / decision / overhaul effort. But in the long run may have significant advantages in maintenance and technology stack / software engineers (they need to know javascript, html and css basically instead of objective C and Android developer platform language and so forth).

@YoupTube#111304 they need to know javascript, html and css basically

That knowledge is present anyway; the frontend team does not only work on this web interface; but also many internal tools etc. So HTML/CSS/JavaScript skills are necessary anyway. 🙂 The aim of this web interface is also not to replace/equal the bunq app; yet, it is a supplement, it allows you to perform some actions more easily (with the use of a keyboard for instance). bunq will closely look at what features will be useful for the web application. In case you have any suggestions for that you are more than welcome to submit them to ideas@bunq.com 🙂👍

@YoupTube#111304 I've built PWAs and yes they are getting pretty good at this point but it still doesn't feel as smooth as a native app. And that's without thinking about having access to fingerprint/face ID type identification and other important features.

@Gregory#111312 I know this, it wont give you access (yet) to all those features of a mobile device through an API. What platform did you use for bunq desktop? Is that Ionic? Did you consider Polymer as well?

@Sander#112390 what do you mean by "it is not related to the current state of the bunq web app"?

@YoupTube#120668 I mean that the discussion you were having is about bunq Desktop and not bunq's own web application. 🙂 so the discussion is off-topic here. 😉

Quando troveremo tutte le funzioni che sono nell’app anche su bunq Web?

@alessandroalise#121544 The web app is not there to exactly mimic the mobile app. It just contains the most important functions. Likely it will never contain all features that the mobile app offers. 🙂 And as usual, bunq does not communicate what they are working on or any ETAs. 😉

@gruppoeternity#144907 I can remember I recently explained to you that bunqs primary focus is to provide the best mobile experience humanly possible (and holy cow 🐮.. what a perfect experience that is so far).

bunq Web has a focus of providing an escape in case of an emergency 🚨 and to come in handy when you have a lot of typing to do.

I personally don’t think it will develop to be a complete alternative to the current mobile app. But who knows what the feature brings. It also depends on all the wishes bunqers have.

                                  11 days later

It's been a while since bunq Web was launched and to be honest I expected several really small updates over time. So with this I hope to shake some tree's to see if there's still some interest in improving the Web app.

I think it would be really nice to see the basic features working fully. That would include watching info of all transactions, viewing and editing scheduled transfers, exporting statements (especially for Business), viewing card details, creating/closing sub-accounts and chat with support. Small tweaks such as hiding permanently blocked cards and the [object Object] bug would be welcome too of course.

I completely understand other features will cost too much time/money to implement and especially for the % of users using bunq.app.
